Alaska Marine Highway System

The M/V Tustumena serves the Aleutian Chain and Kodiak Island. The "Tusty" arrives in Sand Point twice a month, from May through September. The 296 ft vessel was built in 1964 in Wisconsin. It is one of two ocean class vessels in the Alaska Marine Highway System (AMHS) fleet, built to handle the rugged, open waters of the Aleutian Chain. Because of its size and design, it is the only AMHS vessel that is capable of serving all 13 ports of call between Homer and Unalaska.

The Alaska Department of Transportation & Public Facilities is currently in the process of designing the M/V Tustumena replacement for the 50+ year old vessel. The project website is located here.
